We know that participating in Jewish life on and near campus is vital to many college students, and we would love to show you what Drake and Des Moines have to offer.
When planning a campus visit, we encourage you to set up an appointment to meet with Lilianna Bernstein. Lilianna is not only our staff advisor, but also an admission counselor and a former Drake Hillel president! Although she primarily works with Chicago-area students, she is more than happy to meet with your family no matter where you are from.
Many of Drake’s Jewish students come to us from much larger Jewish communities with a wealth of community services, such as Chicago, the Twin Cities, and Kansas City. Although smaller, we are strong and have a very active and vibrant Jewish community with deep historic roots. The Jewish Federation of Greater Des Moines is a wonderful community resource and we recommend visiting their website.
In addition to the Federation, Des Moines is home to Reform, Conservative, and Orthodox synagogues, a Chabad, kosher deli/grocery store, and community center. Many Drake Hillel members have even taught at the Jewish Federation Community School over the years!
